I'm looking for a nice winter coat to last a long time during the coldest days of winter where there's an average of -5°c.

I don't really need recommendations on brands as much as the most durable type of insulation. I'm getting some conflicting advice, I see for instance Fjallraven say that their microloft insulation is durable and warm where I read elsewhere that synthetic fibres will eventually break down and lose their insulating properties. Does this apply to all synthetic technologies?

I know that down insulates more proportionally and synthetic insulation would be thicker.

Usage: outdoors in a primarily urban environment. The jacket will likely never be packed but worth almost daily during the three coldest months of the year.
