Hey guys,I'm in the process of fixing up my dad's house before he sells it, and one of the less... attractive areas is the unfinished side of the basement. About half the room (and only half) is painted mint green. What I didn't know until removing a bookcase is that in one corner, it's painted beige. I imagined this was the original color and it just didn't get painted, but the paint is chipping and bits and pieces of the green are visible. I guess the bookcase was just to cover it up? The whole thing is strange to me.I plan on pressure washing my basement (and my garage, and my deck... got a family friend to do the siding) and I'm wondering if the paint would come off if I applied enough pressure? Or would I have to apply some sort of paint stripper first? I wasn't able to find one at Lowe's that works on concrete, but I've found some on Google that seem to exist. I have no knowledge of the efficacy, though. In a perfect world, I'd like to get off all the paint, but I know that's kind of unrealistic. Mostly I just want to try and get out the area with the second layer of paint (as well as a few paint stains on the floor) since it looks ugly. But I know if some of the surface layer gets out, it's going to look even worse than it did before. So I feel like either it will work "too well" or it just won't do anything.I was originally going to use muriatic acid, since I know that's one of the few things that works on concrete. But the things I've found online say that while it will clean/etch the concrete, it probably won't remove the paint (which makes no sense to me?) And of course, it's dangerous stuff. I do plan on using it to remove some of the rust stains I have on the floor, since I don't think I can use much else to get those out.Part of me wonders if this is even going to be that much of a problem for potential buyers, so I'm not totally sure I need to do it. But if I do, what would be the most effective way to remove the paint, apart from sandblasting? (I imagine this would be the most effective way, but it would require a bunch of tools I don't have.) Have any of you used some kind of chemical paint stripper that worked on concrete, and if so... how did it go?And since it's probably relevant: the house was built in 1958 and I imagine it was painted shortly after. So it's been there for a long time and is way set in. Though the part with the beige paint over it seems almost like it's above the surface entirely. I have no idea when or why this was done. All I know is that it was like that when my parents bought the place in 1985.What do you think I should do here? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2ABKOng
