I've seen various people complaining about terrible Christmas gifts on a few different subs and generally getting insanely stressed out about the holidays. In some cases they're separated from and dislike their family and these gifts are sent to piss them off; in other cases, they're just complaining about apparently unthoughtful gifts. It especially boggles my mind when I see a post from someone broke and drowning in debt stressing how they're going to afford Christmas when all they should really be focusing on is paying off their credit cards.

There was also a commercial during the basketball game today during which NBA players talked about the worst gift they ever got. It's very hard for me to feel bad for a kid who grew up to make millions of dollars playing basketball just because his sister got him a bag of funyuns for Christmas one year.

This is such a first world problem, and really makes me think about how entitled people are and how much excessive consumerism has pervaded our society.

Should I somehow be feeling sorry for the people who complain about the terrible gifts they get?

On a tangentially related note, all my neighbors have an insane number of Christmas decorations outside their homes. Every time I walk by, I just wonder how much money they spent on these things. And how much space they're taking up inside their homes for 10-11 months out of the year. Now I'm not Christian, so maybe I just don't get it...
