This year I am attempting something that has received a lot of criticism from friends and family. In 2018 I will not spend any money outside of my needs which I have listed and budgeted for. This isn’t so much about saving as it is about training myself to see how much my life will change without buying all those things ‘I just have to have’. Thorough, the savings from this year will get me on the right track on saving for a house deposit.
This will be the first year that I work full-time straight from January making a fairly decent salary for my age. I still live at home (21) and am close to work so travel is fairly cheap as well.
The only thing I’m cautious of is social events - I still want to be present for birthdays etc but don’t want to appear stingy. Fortunately I have received a few Visa gift cards for my birthday and Christmas so if I’m strategic about when I can use them I think I’ll be good.
Some people have suggested I try it only for a month but in the past I have been fairly strict on myself when it comes to drastic routine changes, i.e study, dieting, exercise, so I know that I have the determination to see the year through
Has anyone else on here attempted anything like this before / have any tips leading into the new year? Thanks :)
