Hi,As mentioned in the title, I am looking for a home security system. The main features I am looking for:wireless, so I don't have to run cablesmotion detectors and magnetic door contacts are fine, I don't necessarily need cameras (if I wanted to do that I would probably use zoneminder)sends phone / sms, so I know what's happening at homenot cloud based, because I don't want to be dependent on a provider and I like privacypreferably open sourceI have already spent a lot of time researching but haven't found a good solution yet. Most of the systems I have found so far are either cloud based or unable to send a message out.My two current favorites and why they are not fully optimal for me:Honeywell Livewell System - looks well manufactured and easy to use, but does not have any phone module. DIY question: how difficult would it be to get one of the sirens, remove the speaker and replace it with an old mobile phone that will call me once it gets power on a certain contact? Sounds difficult, but is it easier than my other option below?PrivateEyePi - this sounds great, but looks like a lot of electronics work, which I know a bit about in theory but I have never actually done before. On the plus side, I already know my way around Linux and raspberry pi somewhat. What I am looking for would be a system that's modular and easy to use but also has a phone module to call me - maybe with a sim card or just to be plugged into to the phone outlet.Any suggestions?Thank you! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2jhwxlI
