Hello /r/Frugal,

I've been lurking in this sub for a while now and recently became more of aware of a problem i have. I've always been good at stopping myself from buying more expensive items i don't need like for example, better PC monitors, game consoles, new full price games, brand clothes & shoes etc but i've always been HORRIBLE when it comes to low price items, particularly food.

Even if i make breakfast to bring to work, i end up 2-3 days a week going to the store buying $8 worth of say chicken to have with it. I do this even though the breakfast i brought was already sufficient. I always regret it afterwards but can rarely go against the temptation of buying it.

Let's say i buy this 2 times a week, that is $16/w ($64/mo). Add maybe an extra can of soda i don't need every weekend that i don't need either or a bag of potato crisps that i don't actually want. This quickly adds up.

Do you have any advice for how i can change my behaviour to stop myself from making these purchases? I want to improve my savings rate.
