Hey all,

As investors (professionals, hobbyists, speculators, roulette players cough bitcoin) I'm sure that almost all of us have experienced pangs of regret at missing out on gains in whatever financial products we invest in-- I'm wondering how you guys tend to deal with this?

I try to deal with it by explaining the situation to myself logically, e.g:

  • The information set has changed, the new information available to you (gainz, other outcomes) is skewing your perspective on the situation

  • It could also have gone the other way, especially in a highly volatile asset class

  • Regretting not taking part is not a useful emotion, and will hold you back. Instead analyse why/how you made a certain decision, and what subsequently happened in the market. Attempt to rationalise your behaviour systematically.

Even with these guidelines to go by however, I notice that I still have to be very conscious not to go into wsb mode and would therefore like to hear from some more experienced hands about how they tend to deal with these kinds of emotions!

I think that this is especially relevant now with the insane surge in bitcoin, considering a post yesterday that people were taking out mortgages to buy crypto-- WTF!
