Inspired by this article, I added boiled and sweetened cranberries right to a handle of inexpensive but decent vodka along with a couple gala apples. You do have to do something with the vodka the fruit displaces, so store it in another container or drink it. Then just shake once a day and wait.
Strained through a cheese cloth into mason jars it'd make several nice little frugal present for adults, or just as a holiday drink to share. Total cost was $12.50 for the vodka, $2.50 for the cranberries, maybe .33 for the apples, and $2 for the honey I used instead of sugar. So, $17.33 and so far it's tasting real good even after only a few days.
