About four years ago I cosigned with my boyfriend at the time on a 2013 dodge avenger. I have near perfect credit and he was rebuilding his so I thought I could save him money on the interest rate. After we broke up, I asked him repeatedly to refinance. He even got married since then and despite my wishes never was capable of refinancing. I was still able to buy a house and a vehicle and never be affected by this.

After remaining very civil and trying to contact him about his plans for the vehicle, after I found out he and his wife are moving to Alaska, he ghosted me on social media. Sure enough, his payments have been returned since October. The bank wants me to pay $1100 in order for keep the account in good standing. He still owes $9000.

I tried reaching out to him, his wife, and his family. No luck anywhere. I understand my obligation as a cosigner and realized what a mistake I have made. Is there anything I can do or should I just let the loan go without being paid and accept the hit to my credit. I have never been late on a payment ever in my life and my credit score is >800. I am 29 years old. Any advice would help. Thank you.
