Just a tip for those who are looking for a new TV this year, as someone who works at a big blue box electronics store, I can give you a few tips.
Everyone runs in to our stores and buys TVs that are on sale. If the TVs run out of stock, the uneducated will buy the next available TV in stock. This is where returns come into play. Odds are, your local store is going to be ransacked with returns, some of which are going to be TVs (laptops, desktops, etc). If you want to save a little more, go in between Dec 28 (or so) and Jan 15 and ask if there are any open box TVs available. There will be. Fiscal year ends at the end of January so they won’t want those open box electronics on the books for the new year. Haggle with the salesperson and if you’re not happy, talk to the manager.
Also, the Boxing Day door crashes are usually cheaper products made to look like higher end products. Last year we had an Asus laptop that was gold (forget the model) that had a 5th-i5, 1080P screen, 8GB of Ram and 1TB HDD. To the regular consumer, that looks like a great computer. At $499 CAD, an even better deal. I must’ve saw at least 50 come back within the next few months with either trackpad or wifi issues.
Last words, do your research into what features you need/want and have alternatives to go to instead of what’s available. Don’t rush to buy something because odds are, some one is going to return one in the next couple weeks.
