Had a gym membership at [Gym] for a period of time at location 1. Canceled it. Start up a membership at location 2, still with [Gym].
I get calls and a letter from Aldous collections saying I owe $300 odd to Gym X at location 1, even though I've canceled a long time ago.
Gym has used a different collections agency that they own to collect my monthly payments. I google Aldous' number and most reviewers and people who have been called say it's a scam.
Called Location 1 of Gym and asked I owed them any money. "Nope, you're good to go." Then called Aldous' and told them to stop calling me, blocked their number, threw their letter in the trash (I know I know)
Come to find out Gym's FAQ page metions Aldous being one of their collections agencies. However:
- I called the gym themselves and they said I don't owe them anything, do I?
- Aldous has been reported as scam online by most people called by them
- Gym's collections and business practices aren't appreciated according to online reviews
- I've read reviews of people called by Aldous, saying they threatened a credit report hit if no payment is made. Is that all? Shouldn't debts be collected no matter what?
- There's no way I owe that much money, even if I didn't make a single payment to location 1 for as long as I was there it wouldn't come close to $300-odd. It's $10 a month and I wasn't even there for 6.
- I'm 17, not even old enough to have a credit report.
Can someone fill me in? I'm not very knowledgeable in this area
