I [25] got my first salaried job making about 41k a year. I’m currently living with my parents who pay for health insurance, car insurance, and phone bill (basically everything). I love where I live, however it takes me TWO HOURS one way to work in a city. It’s suburban here with no public transportation so I can’t take a direct train in. I have about 9k in savings and I pay about $530 in student loans a month. My only other expenses are gas and the monthly train pass ($97) I use AFTER driving an hour and a half to the station. I get $1200 per paycheck and also have a couple side jobs where I can make anywhere from $150- $400 per paycheck. I am planning to pay off more of my loans to bring my monthly pay down more, however I feel as though I can’t commute any longer. I’ve started to get extremely drowsy at the wheel and it’s going to start snowing soon. So Reddit, I am wondering if I am ready to move into a studio apartment around the train station. I have no idea what goes into having my own place since I lived in dorms for college. I was hoping I could get a studio for $600, however the only building that goes at that rate may not have any available. I’m heavily considering a studio for $675-$725 outside of Philadelphia- is this feasible?
