Hey there reddit,
I'm a 17-year-old high school senior who's applying to college; I'm a male from a middle-class family, just for context.
I live just outside of Boston and I'm applying to college right now; I'm a decent candidate for most schools (unweighted GPA of 3.82, ACT of 32, a good array of extracurriculars and communal involvement).
I was just denied from Wesleyan University for my Early Decision School, but I'm starting to see that as a blessing in disguise: my family works alongside Boston University, and part of the salary package is free tuition for myself and my siblings. My older brother goes there and he wholeheartedly recommends it.
BU is pretty much in the range of schools that I want to go to with regards to academic rigor, but I'm not sure if I want to stay in the same area (or a very similar one) for college that I did for high school.
A big part of the experience that I want from college is the ability to explore a place filled with people different than the ones who I typically interact with, and part of me is apprehensive that going to school around here will leave me pretty stagnant in that regard.
Am I just being totally oblivious to the blessing that free tuition to BU would be? I'm applying to one or two other big university-stlye schools and a couple other liberal arts colleges, but I'm unsure if I'm just ignoring the obvious benefit that's right in front of me in favor of getting out into the world.
Hit me up with some advice; I would really appreciate it.
