I recently obtained a leather messenger bag. However, the strap is attached to the bag sides via a wire rectangular loop. In my experience, the wire loop never seems to hold the strap in one place. It usually bunches the strap into the shorter side of the rectangle and eventually forces the ends of the wire to come apart and let the strap slip out.http://ift.tt/2yE0g23 am looking for a replacement for this wire loop which can be easily removed. However, both ends of leather strap and the attachment points are riveted shut. I would like to preserve their integrity and avoid re-riveting and re-stitching. Carabiners would work, but they tend to have the same problem of the strap slipping into the narrow end and looking unwieldy.I hit upon using 4 anchor shackles to replace the wire loop. However these seemed to be measured by the diameter of the shaft and not the length. Hence finding a shackle that is 2 inches wide results in a large diameter pin that does not fit into the existing leather loops. The goal is to get a 1/4 anchor shackle which is 1 inch wide and widen it until it is 2 inches wide to accommodate the strap. I have also found longer bolts which can accommodate the length change. One side of the anchor shackle is threaded while the other is not. I have been unable to find information about widening anchor shackles because in their normal use for carrying roped loads, it is not recommended. However this project is unlikely to approach those load weights.I have also found twisted anchor shackles which may help with strap twisting. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2Ar51cu
