I've been trying to decide what I want to do with my life recently, and I've decided that I want to work as either a civilian pentester, or the equivalent of the government side. The problem is that what I'm hearing through word of mouth isn't matching up with what I'm finding online.
I've had people tell me that they know DoD intel contractors making $150-300k per year, and that a skilled civilian pentester can make well over six figures. Either I'm missing something or the statistics I'm finding online are wrong, because the numbers I'm seeing are nowhere near that. Where can I find reliable data?
