Long story short, old shower was leaking and father and I decided to redo it. Removed all the tiles, discovered the culprit. Pretty sure this was how the original contructor did it: There's this steel mesh in the very back, then there is a thin cement layer, on top of it, mortar/cement mix was put on the back of the tile like a dough, then pushed/smashed on to the cement layer. The result is a almost an inch thick of cement/mortar, stuck and mixed onto the steel mesh, leaving huge gap behind each of the 4 corners of every tile.We took down one side with the help of an air hammer. Still it's a pita and father is swearing not to remove the other 2 sides already and planning to just mount a concrete board on top. Obviously that's not a good idea but the mortar removal really is a labor intensive task. I'm wondering if there's any easier way for that. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2z5DzUA
