My friends mom recently passed. Her mother’s health had been failing for years, but she lived alone and always refused hemp, so all of her finances were a complete jumbled mess and while it appears she managed to pay most bills on time, where all her money was and what bank accounts and how many was kind of a question.
Through lots of sorting, lots of calls and lots of patience, my friend managed to sort through everything. She closed what needed to be closed. Moved anything that needed to be moved. Filed documents that needed to be kept and so on. During this she collected one small life insurance policy of around 25-30k. However she said she really felt there was another policy. She said before her mother passed she talked about how well off her grandchildren would be because of what she was leaving. Unfortunately she left no kind of will or anything detailing what she had. While she was sick for a long time, nobody expected her to pass anytime soon, and certainly not as quickly as she did.
While it’s likely a stretch, I’m wondering if there’s any way to check this kind of thing. Maybe a national database? But that sounds way to simple and easy. My friend has had a very rough go, and if there was a way to give her a definitive answer on this one thing I would like to help. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.
