Hello /r/personalfinance! Ok, here's my story. My family and I (Me, my wife, and my daughter) just moved to Europe. We will be living here for about a year and I need some financial advice. I am an independent contractor so I pay SE taxes... but I will still be performing work for a US company back home while living abroad.
Q1 - Will I need to pay self-employment taxes in the US as well as the country I am living in even though I'm not technically working for a foreign company?
Q2 - For insurance purposes, I will be using my in-laws address as our home address since we don't really have a permanent residence at the moment and we are living overseas. Is this acceptable?
Q3 - Am I still required to pay for a US health insurance plan even thought we won't be using it? We are looking into local health plans for expats here in Europe that are a lot cheaper, and I don't want to have to pay for two separate plans while we are living here.
Any help on the subject would be appreciated. I'm kind of lost right now. Thanks!
