ππΌββοΈBACKGROUNDππΌββοΈ I am a 24 y/o male living in Long Island, NY. I just started working as a teacher and make 55K. This will increase to roughly 60K when I graduate in May. Currently I live at home and do not pay rent but pay for everything else. My home life is hectic. My mother is extremely controlling and I never know what Iβm coming home to (she gets crazed, not going into further detail). I have a gf who i have been seeing for 3 years but she is not ready to move out as her parents pay everything for her. She also is only making roughly 30K. I have been working to move out since high school. I have roughly 25K saved up and 4K in my checking. βββ
πTHE MEATπ My friendβs lease is up in March and he is looking for a roommate. I told him Iβd like to but I wanted to think about the reality of it. He makes roughly 45K.
Personally I could wait maybe 1-2 years max and put up with my mom. However, it is a very depressing situation and has been very difficult for me to cope(mother does not believe in therapy and will not let me go while I live under her roof). ββββ
πΈMonthly Costs:πΈ
Rent- we are looking for an apartment that costs roughly 1,600-2,000
Utilities- I donβt even know how much this will cost
Car insurance- My dad pays for this. In return I pay for us to go to concerts. Usually cost for the year for me is 400-500$ sometimes more if there are spectacular years
Gas-140-240(varies greatly apartment should lower significantly)
Cable/internet/Phone- 45
Cell-45
Martial arts-100 (gonna negotiate my contract in January looking to get this down to 75-80) ββββ
TLDR: Live in NY. Making roughly 55K (gonna be 60K next year). Should I get an apartment with my friend or wait 1-2 years and acquire more wealth?
