I hope this is allowed here. I don't know where else to post an open discussion about this.

Recently, I sat down and went through my expenses. I spend $10 here for netflix, then $5 there for an online subscription. It quickly adds up and you're spending $200/month on entertainment. Then you have you phone bill, internet bill, cable, etc.

This got me thinking about expenses from 20 or 40 years ago. I am young so I don't know about the culture of the 70s and 80s. I'm curious to know what the expenses back then were like. Did they have little things adding up? Is that why it seems like people nowadays don't have money because of all the little things?

Back in those days, you paid for your house, your car, and your groceries. Then what? Go to the movies once a week, or go to club once in awhile?

I would love to hear from the old and wise here! :) What were expenses like 20 to 40 years ago? Do you feel like with new technology it keeps piling on? Was budgeting simplier back then?

P.S. I would love to go back to landlines and not be "on call" 24/7. xD
