Images HereI was putting up one of those super hip sliding barn doors. Drilled the pilot hole with the sized bit they recommended, and there was resistance all the way through (i.e., drilling into solid, apparently petrified wood). Putting in the lag screw, my impact driver crapped out and literally wouldn't drive the screw any farther, so I switched to a wrench. I should have backed it out and widened the pilot hole, but live and learn. Bottom line is, the thing is STUCK.Further complicating the issue, I have a timber frame house, so there's a big beam about 10 inches from the wall, and my drill barely fits up into the space. I assume I just drilled into really hard old wood, since my stud finder didn't find any studs and drilling took some effort all the way through.I could try a screw extractor, but I'm concerned that I won't be able to get a straight pilot hole in the tight space. I'm also concerned a little extractor bit won't be able to budge this giant, really stuck screw. (For real, it's in there good.)Any other options? Will those extractor kits work? A fun DIY project is becoming increasingly not so fun. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2ByW6Gn
