Hey everyone, I come requesting some help. I want to take a load bearing wall down in a house I just purchased to open up the area between the kitchen and living room. Below I have a photo of a house with the same floor plan as mine and basically the same thing I want to do.I read in some places that removing a load bearing wall can be structurally unsound but the site I found that on was talking about removing it and replacing it with a beam. If I put pillars in, will that keep everything safe? Also, there is a basement, but there are pillars on the basement right underneath the wall; will these be an issue at all?I do have the intention of hiring a contractor, but I wanted to put this out here before paying someone to come quote it if it’s unsafe to do or something anyway. Thanks! The red in the photo is illustrating where the wall extends in my house. Photo: http://ift.tt/2j6Es54 via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2BpJH6L
