As a quick heads up I read through the collections wiki and am not sure if I still need to follow the steps.
6 years ago I decided that I was interested in moving out of my parents house. I looked at various apartments and chose one that I could afford(was really sketchy), they ran my credit in which I did not have any at that point in time, and before signing the lease or moving I decided against it and told them I am not interested.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago(October 2017), received a notification email from credit karma stating that my score has dropped because of a recent collections that has been reported in October 2017. I looked at the details on credit karma and saw the Apartment Complex name from 6 years ago.
Between 2011 and 2017 I have purchased a new car via an auto loan(bought in 2014 credit union who did the loan said I had no credit) and got an apartment yet have had zero issues on my credit reports.
I have not received any letters or phone calls from the Collections Agency(NCAC)
Do I need to just dispute this with Transunion and Equifax via certified mail or do i need to also send a letter to the collections agency?
