The settlement amount is $17,000 with a voucher of roughly $5,000 from a sexual assault.

I have $7,500 in loans, and a few loans from /r/borrow to pay off. Assuming I have $22,000 to start with, I will be roughly at $12,000.

I have a few options:

Save: I could put it away for a rainy day. I'll probably have an emergency fund of a reasonable amount.. I think that should hold me off for any medical emergencies or vehicle issues.

Invest: I don't have much of an idea of what to invest my money in.. I'm 22, so retirement funds without a job doesn't seem smart? I may be wrong??

School/Future: I do plan on going back to school. If I go back to school I would barely be in my third semester of community college. It's a great idea for me, but I don't think I'll be using more than $2,000 within the next two years from the $12,000 total. Assuming I can find a job.

Edit: I guess I'm basically asking for someone to enlighten me on any other options that I may not be considering as of now.
