I moved to a higher COL city, and while I'm trying to stay frugal (freelancer trying to pay off student loans), my friends in this city love going out to eat, or to events, or concerts, and invite me out a few times a week. I've explained that I'm trying to save money before, but it seems to fall on deaf ears (they are either from affluent families or in debt themselves and pretty careless with finances). I am grateful that they're trying to include me in their plans, and I would like to see them, but in a context where we don't have to spend money. I'm worried that if I keep turning them down, they'll stop inviting me to anything--any advice for a tactful way to deal with this?
