The wife upgraded to a CPO Subaru Impreza replacing her 2006 Scion XB with 161k miles. That car is great and has been very reliable/problem free but she wanted to upgrade to something more comfortable and with modern safety features like blind spot monitoring side airbags etc.
We kept the Scion XB with the intent to sell it private party but I am debating whether to keep it and sell my car (2009 Accord coupe with 96k miles). That car has also been reliable but doesn't quite have the utility of the old Box Scion although it's much more comfortable. I have a very short commute to work and we will generally use the Impreza for most trips etc.
The Accord was purchased used for 17k 6 years ago. Selling the Accord would net about 7 to 8k while selling the Scion would net about $3500 to $4000 we hope. I would probably spend about $500 to install a modern head unit with Bluetooth and Android auto in the Scion if I kept it along with a few other general cleanup things.
What are r/frugals thoughts on the two options.
-
Sell Scion as originally planned and bank the money for the next new (used) car.
-
Sell Accord and drive Scion into ground while banking money from the Accord sale for the next new (used) car
