Hi folksI have these two corner fascias that are rotting on a hidden gutter. And I have a relatively protected pillar corner of the same stuff that is rotting as well in a similar way. I'm not sure of the root cause. With regard to the worst (1st) hidden gutter, I pulled out the plastic soffit cover and had a look underneath and it was in better shape than the outside. I've included a picture (Pics 1, 2, 3 are the same spot). I then ran the hose in the gutter for a while, to see if there was any leaks and there was no noticeable problem. At the same time I decided to clean out the gunk in the gutters just to be on the safe side, but it didn't appear like it had been obstructing anything. So right now my working theory is that these corners are using the wrong nails and maybe done wrong? The worst corner flashing doesn't seem particularly good either, maybe that is worsening the situation. The pillar is the real question mark for me. It's under an eave so I guess it gets a little weather but it can't be much. And it's just dissolving away. There's obviously no water coming from behind the pillar, and no hidden gutter involved there. My original plan was to just pry these up and replace them exactly the way they were, except make sure to use galvanized nails. But then I wondered if a hidden gutter leak, or flashing, or some other factor was involved, in which case I guess other changes are necessary.I walked down the street, and looked at all the corners of the cookie cutter houses here, and there's at least 3 or 4 others with the exact same stuff going on at corners like this. This makes me think it's not a leak, or not primarily a leak anyways.Hopefully the cause is obvious to someone, thanks for any thoughts. Here's the pics: http://ift.tt/2i6PyK5: I should mention that that the hidden gutters did leak in a few places when I first moved in and they were fixed by the builder. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2iRd1w3
