I worked at a thrift store and we threw a LOT of stuff out. The clothing went to be sold by the pound, but furniture and stuff we just tore apart and compacted. Some of this stuff deserved it (people donate a lot of trash), but other stuff got the ax just for being out of season or something we just had an overstock of already, even if it was in mint condition.

Now I'm a frugal person, and I enjoy this sub because it helps me save money, but to me frugality is also about being efficient, minimalistic, and conscious of our collective resources. That can also involve wanting our second hand items not to go to waste. Not throwing things away if they can be used again is a kind of multi-owner/community-wide frugality.

Anyway, I have a lot of clothes from a deceased family member and I would rather see them worn than reconstituted into carpet fiber. They're nice clothes and they're not being donated because they are worn out; they're being donated because I have no use for them and they make me sad. I don't think they're really nice in a brand name - sell on ebay kind of way, but more in a good quality, well-kept, often infrequently worn kind of way.

Anyway, if there are some thrift store employees out there, I'm going to donate this stuff and get the tax write off, which thrift stores throw out the least stuff?
