I have been working for a tech company for the last two years and have achieved quick growth based on performance (I've doubled my salary over the last year). Yesterday, one of the Vice Presidents informed that I now have 3,000 shares that have been vesting since early 2016 (I will be receiving a formal letter about it next week). What does this mean exactly?

Stock options have just been recently approved and there has been talk of going public. We are pretty established in our field as it's rather niche right now and the company has been stable for about a decade. We employ a couple hundred employees and have recently received and extra 40 million in funding, bringing our total to around 70 million (public knowledge. Is there any way to determine or estimate the rough value of the stock if we were to go public? This is completely out of the blue and I have no idea what I am doing.
