I am looking to start contributing to a Roth IRA and I am looking at ways to maximize the tax benefits of the account.
I think positions in industrial/warehouse REITs have a good opportunity for div payouts and growth, riding on the ongoing boom of ecommerce growth.
I have a few mid stream MLPs I would like to get a position on but I need to understand more about the K1 tax scenario and how to calculate the +/- of such positions.
There are renewable energy yieldCos that I think have long potential, but the lack of understanding in regards to the tax situation has me uninvested here also.
I also would like to diversify with growth stocks but am unsure how to calculate my earnings of a strategy favoring yields or favoring growth, in short and long run scenarios. Would it be more beneficial to go growth during the early accumulate stage while switching focus to a dividend strategy later on?
In the current world climate, I think defense and aerospace are great growth areas. Tech and biomed are obvious growers as well but I don't understand the nuances of either segment well enough to take a meaningful long position.
Also how complex would my yearly taxes be with holdings in an MLP or yieldCo? I am an April 15th kind of guy unfortunately, and stubbornly would prefer not to use a tax professional unless absolutely necessary, though likely unavoidable in my near future.
These are general topics I would love to hear input on. Anything to spark thought is truly appreciated! Thanks for having me here :)
