My work obliges me to reside temporarily in towns in Canada with dubious or poor water quality. So for daily use (≈ 3 L of water/day), the stand-alone filter shouldn't need hooking to any pipe, even the kitchen faucet; instead, I prefer to pour water manually into the filter. I always boil water before any use; I never drink directly from tap.

I dismiss the following because the unknown companies look suspicious, and because I've had problems with ordering products shipped from the US (e.g. I had to pay for shipping for repairs. US, and not Canadian, law applies.). I can order online as long as the contract is subject to Canadian law.

  1. AquaTru
  2. Watero
  3. ZIP Countertop Reverse Osmosis Water Filter
