i removed a small patch of drywall to confirm, and there is no gap in between the wall and brick behind, so no studs and i must secure the bracket directly to the brick.included with the mount are four 5/16" lag bolts with a length of 2.75"basic research led me to believe I could use lag shields to use the bolts with brick instead of wood. well i noticed that lag shields come in a limited amount of sizes and that none of the them were as long as the bolt that i need to secure.. leading to my first question, is it correct to use a lag shield when the bolt is longer than the shield? (the ones i have are about half length of the bolt)the shields that i bought indicate that a 1/2" hole must be drilled in the brick before inserting the shield and then screwing in the bolt. so i drilled into the brick with 1/2" masonry bit and the lag shield inserted a little bit loose which confused me because i thought it would need to be hammered in.. i only inserted it until it was flush with the surface of the brick and not any deeper, question 2 is: are you supposed to leave the lag shield flush with surface or push fully into the back of the hole?after the lag shield was in and i began tightening the bolt, the damn lag shield snapped in two from the force of expansion into the brick (left crack in the brick too)..it seems like i am using the shields improperly, and dont want to cause any more damage to the bricks. looking for advice on the proper use of shields for this use case and how to know which size to use and how to install correctlythanks via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2z4sNNJ
