I have about $12,000 in my account at a small town bank in the Midwest ... I'm moving to the southwest and want to start a bank account or account at a credit union there. I was thinking maybe I'll ask for a cashiers check for 10k to bring with me and to start an account with and leave the other 2kish in my checking here in the Midwest for my travel fund ( gas, uhaul, hotels, etc.) My last paycheck will be deposited into my account this up coming Friday and I'm leaving with my truck and a uhaul trailer that Sunday. My question is, would it be best to get a cashiers check for said amount and keep the remaining 2k in for expenses, or is there a better way to get my money into a account in the southwest without doing this?
