Married 4 months ago to my SO that I've been with for 7 years - she's started the process for name change and when its complete we've decided to merge our accounts. We're both debt free and pretty responsible with our money, communication and spending.

The decision is to have: -1 joint checking -1 joint savings -1 Joint credit card -Each our own individual credit cards for gifts / personal purchases.

All of the money will come out of 1 account so we communicate our costs and decide personal limits ahead of time. I will track it and categorize our spending through Mint or other means.

Now that we've decided on this, I'm stuck on what bank we should use. I've had Chase for a while (also my 2 CC are chase) - She's had Wells Fargo for years. Im assuming it doesn't really make much of a difference -- which raises the question of a credit union? I dont know much about those --

Curious if it matter much, and what people do - and more importantly, why.

I think the savings account we will keep online with my account because of the higher rates.

Thanks in advance.
