My kitchen has 10 dimmable low voltage LED downlights, however, 3 of the transformers have broken. They were installed by the previous owner, seemingly right around the time LED downlights started to come into fashion in 2009-2010, so they're fairly old at this point. Almost everything I've read on the topic so far is just related to upgrading to LED from halogen lights, I can't find much about whether switching from LV to mains is good or bad. Dimmable LV transformers seem to cost £15-20 minimum, so I figure I'm looking at £60+ to replace the transformers, versus ~£75 and time to buy mains LED bulbs and fittings and remove the transformers. Obviously if other transformers break then the cost of sticking with LV will go up. So with the monetary costs being fairly similar at the moment, is there any clear-cut "best" decision? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2glXdjS
