Interesting write-up. I've seen people on this sub say many times "I wouldn't invest in X company for moral reasons." The names that most commonly come up are Nestlé, CoreCivic, BP, etc.
I personally despise tobacco and smoking. I've lost relatives to it, (and also hate being subjected to passive smoke on a daily basis). Furthermore, I question some of the practices they use in developing countries too. However, I don't think I'm 'helping them' or contributing to people smoking by buying shares that already exist on the market. What's the harm? If I'm subjected to passive smoke on a daily basis, well at least I may as well make something from it. I'd even argue that Fast food franchises (contribute to diabetes and also market to kids) or Defense companies (make things that will kill innocent people) are equally 'unethical'.
Similar with Nestlé. Unless you actually stop buying buy any of their multitude of products (which I'm sure you consume anyway whether you know it or not), I doubt you refusing to buy a few k worth of shares is going to have any impact.
