Yesterday I got a letter in the mail notifying me that "THE HOME DEPOT TOOL RENTAL-DIY has not yet received past due amount of $99.46. Unless, within thirty days after your receipt of this notice, you dispute the validity of the debt or any portion thereof, we will assume the debt to be valid. If within thirty days after your receipt of this notice, you notify us in writing that the debt or any portion thereof is disputed, we will obtain verification of the debt or copy of a judgement."
I never rented anything from HD Tool Rentals, I did go there one time with the intention of renting a tool, but I canceled and went and bought the tool instead. I have a copy of the original contract showing that it was voided.
My questions are:
- Has it already been reported to the credit agencies?
- How can I dispute this erroneous collections claim?
- Has anyone else gone through this that could offer some advice?
