From what I've read, it's more beneficial to buy out a phone and get a cheaper plan, instead of those free phones and expensive plan options.

If that's the case, does anyone know what the best bet is to get a cheapish new phone like a one plus 5 or essential phone?
Should I just go to a samsung, telus, or bestbuy store?
And for used, is swappa my best bet? How to tell I'm not being scammed?
