I live in the suburbs of Boston, and it seems like no one builds or buys anything but 4br colonial-style houses. That means to get a decent-sized kitchen with nicer finishing or family room or garage, you end up 2500sqft or more. And most newer houses seem to be even bigger. It's like no one wants a really nice smaller house.

I don't really need or want 2800sqft, but I've been looking for years, and to get the kitchen and family room I want, seems I'm stuck going big colonial. And if I ever want to sell, which seems a reasonable assumption, it'll be tough on a smaller house with higher-end finishes.

I can afford the mortgage, but I am wrestling with the idea of so much house, by myself (not interested in renting rooms).

Curious whether folks, especially anyone familiar with MA, think I'm crazy for considering such a big house? Anyone in a similar boat? Thanks!
