Many banks have in their online services some alarm/notification settings to send you emails or SMS for when specific things happen to your account, like informing you of transactions, daily or weekly balance, warnings for low balance, etc.
It is very important that you activate and use them in your favor.
It won't avoid the "unexpected" to happen, like someone making unauthorized debits or transfers, but it will warn you so you can start acting quickly toward resolving the issue, especially if you are not a daily user of your online services.
Extra tip: if your bank offers 2-step authentication, definitively activate and use it as soon as possible!
