Neither my boyfriend or I have debt.

He wants to get into a field and discovered that one factor they consider is your credit score. The career doesn't pertain to finance.

He has only had a credit card for less than a year and has rarely purchased anything on it, and only has $1000 of credit available to him. His credit score is something like 520-530. I think he's paid his bills on time but the problem is he hasn't had an established history.

My credit score is 740. Not amazing but pretty good IMO.

He wants to immediately boost his credit score, but it seems most things in the short term won't improve the situation - it's more of a long term thing.

He's not that good with money, which concerns me. Can I add him as an authorized user and just not give him the card to improve his score? It'll essentially be my credit card with his name on it? How long would it take for his credit score to increase a bit with this strategy, assuming I managed it as if were my own card?

We've been together for years, so I trust him on a personal level to not be up to anything nefarious, but I don't trust his budgeting abilities and the like.

Further, would it damage my credit score in any way?
