Hey guys, not sure if I should post here but I figured I’d give it a shot.

My boss is slowly taking away money from our YTD pay stubs. For example, on 10/11/2017 my YTD total was 5,512.68$ with a total tax deduction of 1,077.94$. The next weeks pay stub, 10/18/2017, has a YTD total of 2,900.38$ and a total tax deduction of 582.86$.

I originally thought maybe my boss screwed up the date when totaling it all. For example started the year at a different date instead of 01/01/2017. However, I don’t see how that could have happened when the system automatically starts the year on January 1st. One of my good friends used to be the financial accountant for my boss and I asked her what the issue could be. She said it never gave her the option to change the date as I thought may have happened.

I could be overthinking this completely. However, it makes me a bit nervous about my tax returns when my boss files my W2. I don’t want to lose money that I’ve earned and am supposed to get back because my boss doesn’t want to pay the business taxes. I’m not completely sure how it works, (correct me if I’m wrong,) Lower total taxes for employees = lower taxes for the business?

A little back story on my boss. He used to own a company in another state about 10 years ago. He once informed me and my coworker that he was forced to move from said state so he would not get “in trouble” for tax reasons. So he moved his business up here.

I’m really trying to not think the worst, but I even texted my boss three days ago multiple times and he has still not replied.
