So, I know that a single man can get Section 8 and Low Income Housing. You count as a family of 1. I live in the state of California.

I am a single man going to Job Corps for 3 years. I wanna sign up for government housing programs now so I have 3 years for the waitlist to call my name when I get back.

So, how long can I be on the waitlist and is it first come first serve in a linear fashion or will I continually get passed up by a handicapped guy or family?

When my time comes and I get chosen on the waitlist, do I have to do it right then and there or can I do it later? (I may be gone at Job Corps)

Also, what is the difference between Section 8 and low income housing? I know that Section 8, you have to find a place yourself with a voucher and low income, the government gives you a place that they have which is obviously faster.

Besides that, what are some of the differences. Pro's and Con's. Which is better?

Any other programs? Thank you!
