Just thought I would update this sub reddit on my post two months ago.
My family ended up getting a heavy duty generator instead of relying on the portable generators. We managed to get a 20kw generator with 110 hours on it and a GSC generator smart thingy installed on it for only 1500 dollars along with installation from the local generator shop in town.
We installed a huge propane tank for it so you don't have to refill it or buy propane constantly.
Each line/plug in is 7000watts each along with 20 amps, we are able to run our washer and fridge off this. Pretty much light up the whole place as well and run whatever else we want.
The thing is loud as f*** though, so any tips or suggestions on how to make a big generator quieter would be appreciated. We're trying to make it quiet as possible. Also make it so our neighbors can't hear it at all.
We thought about building a fence around our house and the propane tank, and then building a fence/bunker for the 20kw generator and then either using cinder blocks facing upright and filling in the holes or sandbags.
Or building two fences around the generator but in between filling the vacant space with sand, dirt, soil, rocks etc. Thoughts?
Also thought about installing a better muffler.
Materials aren't a problem but we don't want to spend much, we already have wood and panels.
