Thanks for advice in the past personal finance! After reading countless posts about others struggles in work life and different situations I took what I had read and applied it to my life. This is just an appreciation post.
So I after 14 years of manual labour work (concreting) which pays significantly well here in Australia ($350 per day, minimum), my wrists and shoulders could handle no more. I have been job searching and researching for about 2 years, even getting some more qualifications (training and assessing).
I landed a job training/assessing on 60k a year before tax. Pretty stoked with it except the pay difference from concreting was signifcant (got to start somewhere) and the hours were much larger than what I was used to, which was difficult with a new baby girl. My usual week is tue-fri which is fine except 80% of public (paid) holidays land on a monday, my normal day off, so I essentially would be working more than everyone else for free.
After 2 months of not wanting to sound ungrateful for being paid a generous salary in an entry level position I finally put it to the boss to give me the missed holidays in lieu and he agreed. Without reading countless personal finance posts I may never have asked and possibly become bitter about it over time. Ask and you shall receive.
