I am looking for practical advice on how to design and build a small house for all-year use. I live near the coast in a temperate area with lots of wind and precipitation, mostly in the form of rain. The ground is a soft mixture of sand and clay that tends to get waterlogged. Groundwater is rarely more than 1 m (3.3 ft) below surface, and the area usually gets hit by a light flooding every decade or so.So my main challenges are getting the foundation done right, keeping out rain, staying clear of ground water, and securing the house against moisture.I am allowed to build up to 20 m2 (215 ft2) at a height of 3.5 m (11.5 ft) above ground level, and I want to get as much value for money out of those limitations. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2eubXQ2
