I'm a kroger customer and often save a bundle at the store itself by backing up the truck for "managers specials".
When you use your Kroger Plus card they also credit you with "fuel points", every 100 gives you $0.10 off at their gas stations. I think the limit is 30 gallons.
One thought that's come to mind today, if it can be done safely, is fill up your tank when it's as empty as possible (14 gallons in my case), then fill up 3, 5 gallon gas cans. With this you can have super cheap gas for emergencies or to top off your tank from home.
I've gotten gas for as little as $1 with the Kroger discounts. If you got the full 30 gallons at $1, you'd save about $30-40 depending on the current gas prices.
