I bought a couch for about $220 4 years ago. After a year and a half it was sunken in the middle and just falling apart. The fabric tore while carying it out of our apartment so we just tossed it in the dumpster...

I bought a nice reclining leather sofa at Costco after that for $800. It's 2 years old now and while the leather and reclining hardware still looks/functions like brand new, the cushions have become so flat that it hurts to sit in for the length of a movie. The structural bars hit you like when sleeping on a cheap sleeper sofa. Also one of the seats leans outwards now for some reason. http://ift.tt/2wPl0RP

Anyway I learned my lesson again I guess, $800 doesn't buy you a long lasting leather sofa. I want to buy something that will last a decade. It doesn't have to be leathe.

From searching today on reddit I found out that we have a local Room & Board outlet with "returned items and slightly imperfect pieces at a reduced price" So I guess we should check them out, although most of their stuff looks pretty blocky and modern and I'm not sure it would fit in our 1920's house with it's wood trim and beams, everything looks old in our house.

Where should I shop? This is for more of a home theater area, I want a comfortable seat to watch many hours of TV and movies every week. Ideally I'd like to have two nice recliners but it would look dumb. I'd prefer a reclining home theater specific piece, but it would look a little weird and I'm beginning to think reclining sofa-type things can't last becasue they don't have removable, rotatable, replaceable cushions like a normal sofa does. One with a single side chase would probably work well, I'd have to measure it out.
