Hello r/DIY, I'm a longtime lurker/upvoter and first time DIYer. I'm taking these pipes I found on the street and restoring them for use as the base for a countertop. They're a little worse for wear but the sections that are still relatively clean though have a nice finish that I'd like to restore across all the pieces. My questions is how can I restore them (remove the rust, etc) without damaging the overall finish? Or do I have to strip all the finish off and then refinish? As a final bit of info, they have the words "China" and "SLK" on them, which leads me to believe they are SLK Fittings, which appear to be steel? Thanks for all your help. Sorry this is the least concise post ever. I'll be sure to post updates as I implement your suggestions! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2iUcYlQ
