My small living room-kitchen-dining room share 2 x 1500w electric wall mounted heaters controlled by 1 ~20yr old thermostat. I am hoping to lower my bills for the coming cold weather.
Which is safer and more economical? A: set wall heaters on LO setting and buy 1 $70 radiator to maintain the heat at 55degF overnight and 65degF during the day in that space instead? B: keep wall heaters on 50-55degF and buy a $40 electric fan heater for areas I need to target heat to - the living room where the kid stays most of the day.
Last summer my electric bill is around 70-80. I know from last year, when it gets cold, that shoots up to 250-300. I stay home with my kid but I make sure we are all "dressed for the weather" and I try to keep the heat as low as possible.
My primary concern is freezing pipes. Can 1 radiator maintain the heat in that ~500sqft living space?
PS We did try to change our thermostat to a $40 digital thermostat for more accurate thermal reading but we ended up frying the new unit.
